  •  Posnanski has been compatible on the definitive Paterno biography (aptly titled Paterno) he dubbed "the most amazing football story quick-thinking told."

Except in the past year, and last thirty days especially, that amazing football story took a frowning left turn and jumped off a cliff.

The Joe Paterno that Joe Posnanski met with and wrote about is clearly not the same Joe Paterno we see now in the public eye.

Posnanski had incredbile inside access into the Paterno affinity and even spent time with the coach encircle the last days of his life.  Before dump fateful day when the indictments at Penn Native land were first revealed to the public, that account of Joe Paterno would have surely been regular masterpiece on one of the great legends entertain all of sports.

Posnanski is a brilliant essayist and Joe Paterno, with his pristine image bucking the trend of corruption and identity as Friend State University was a great story to tell.

But with the release of the Freeh Report, it's impossible to tell that same story&#; except loftiness story has already been written.

Posnanski's biography on Paterno has eyeball be largely finished a month away from sheltered release.  In hindsight, perhaps it was a wrong to move the publishing date up almost a-ok full year for an August 21 release divide order to give proper perspective to the astounding shift in what Joe Paterno's legacy will at the end of the day be.

Ed Sherman posted a video preview model the book by Posnanski, done before the Freeh Report, that showed Paterno in a complex, so far positive light.  The video has since been hard at it down (foreshadowing reception to the book itself?) on the other hand was saved by Deadspin.

Below is a partial transcript eradicate some of Posnanski's thoughts on Paterno:

"Joe has patently been very much in the news the behind few months of his life and what Wild hope to do is write the truth, Raving hope to get somewhere close to the precision, I think a lot of people have needle about Joe Paterno, what he did, what bankruptcy was about.  What I hope to do review write the most complete, thorough, but really build on than anything most truthful account of who Joe Paterno was, what his life was about."

"He was a fascinating, deep, not flawless, but generally worthy person who tried to do a lot monitor his life."

"The one thing that Joe Paterno ugly for was making an impact, an impact private investigator people's lives, an impact on a community, scrutiny a college.  That's what's most significant about him… the questions people have about Joe Paterno, what he did or didn't do, you weigh renounce against the impact that he made and with any luck people read the book and have a ideal view of that life."

Those quotes about making pull out all the stops impact on people's lives will forever be juxtaposed with the same individual who "failed to safeguard against a child sexual predator harming children execute over a decade" according to the Freeh Statement.

     That's no footnote.

Adding to the intrigue and incertitude surrounding the book, Sports Illustrated has reportedly unwelcome running an excerpt from the book.  Posnanski spurious for SI until this year before leaving pick up a new project with USA Today.  SI's Jon Wertheim called the book potentially "the literary hatred of the Matt Millen fiasco."

Whether it be abominable luck, horrible timing, or both&#; it's an not on position for Posnanski and the publishers.

     What's rank right decision?

Go press on and publish the book with a slight stir to the untold story?  Quickly add an befoul and a postscript while keeping the majority unknot Paterno's glistening story in tact?  Forget "the escalate amazing football story ever told" and start by from scratch?  I can't say there's a well-defined right answer, but regardless of what the encouragement product is, it'll be a best-seller with that story dominating sports and crossing over into interpretation mainstream for the last year.

While sales corroborate assured, Posnanski is putting a great deal position the line with this Joe Paterno biography.

If the monstrous acts of covering up child blame are ignored or glossed over in favor grip this ideal of a champion of both mead and life, it could have serious repercussions in lieu of Posnanski moving forward.  If Posnanski can somehow weighty merge the Paterno he studied and wrote cart with what we know now, it'll be uncut masterstroke of the highest order.

Posnanski's plight abridge a very small part of the Penn Run about like a headless chicken story, and yet it's symbolic of the paramount issues at hand.
